Clinton Schifcofske retired from a 16 year career as a professional 1st Grade Rugby League/ Union player both in Australia and in the UK. In 2011 he linked with his former manager of 16 years, Steve Gillis – and launched Gillis Schifcofske Sports Management, a boutique agency focused on giving sports stars professional advice with a personal touch.
Clinton has adapted well to his new profession and has secured the signatures of many of the biggest name players in both codes. Clinton has also built up strong working relationships with the major rugby league and rugby union franchises within Australia and around the world.
Throughout his 16-year career Clinton played at such clubs as Parramatta Eels & Canberra Raiders before switching codes to play Rugby Union for the Queensland Reds & Ulster Rugby in Northern Ireland. To finally finishing his playing career for the Celtic Crusaders in the UK Super League in Wales. Clinton has also represented Queensland in the State of Origin and Australia A in Union.
5 years before retiring Clinton started planning for his transition from Footy to Player Management. It was his experience as the captain of the Canberra Raiders and later the Celtic Crusaders that helped him make his career decision for after Footy.
In Clinton’s Own Words…
“I took being a leader very seriously and thoroughly enjoyed mentoring younger players on and off the field. Over my 16 year career I have experienced highs and lows, which have helped me to gain invaluable knowledge. Because of these experiences and knowing that Sports Management was my chosen career, I have gained personal contacts in the Television and Radio industry, with Union and league clubs all around the world, with universities, trusted accountant and financial advisor, car dealerships, clothing companies, and many many more.
Throughout these years Steve Gillis has helped me and guided me in more ways then one. He’s become a father figure to me in which I totally respect his views and advice 100%. His honesty and integrity is why I decided to join forces with him and create GS Sports Management which is benefiting young and old players in a way that far exceeds their expectations.
With my experience as a player and the worldwide contacts in both League and Union I have made, along side one of the best managers in Australia and Europe, Steve Gillis. Together we have brought something new and exciting to the management world.
Being a player for so long, I believe I understand what a player needs and deserves. Players need to be helped not only in the negotiating and signing of contracts but also in sponsorship deals, education, post footy, and mentoring. They need to be able to ask their manager for help and advice in all aspects of life. A manager should be someone they can trust 100%. A mate for life.
My aim is to give young and old players the best possible opportunities, to have the contacts and networks to place them any where in the world, work hard for them and have their absolute trust. To lead them in the right direction and to help them understand that this career is not forever, to encourage players to think about this and be prepared for their retirement.
I understand completely that choosing the right Manager is a huge decision and also a very important one. I remember clearly when I was going through the same experience as an 18 year old with my Mum and Dad. But I can honestly say my Mum, Dad and myself made the best decision of my life choosing Steve Gillis to represent me. ” Clinton Schifcofske
